Peru was nominated for the prestigious "World Travel Awards", also known as the "Oscar of tourism". Peru competed in three categories: "Leading Culinary Destination", "Leading Green Destination" (Machu Picchu) and "Leading Tourist Board" (PROMPERÚ).
The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Commerce and Tourism invited the population to vote over the Internet to be able to claim the awards.
