Exporter's Day was held on November 9, and within the framework of the commemorative activities, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) reported that exports by Peruvian SMEs grew 122 % in the last 15 years.
The SME 2021 panel: working for an exporting Peru, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Edgar Vasquez Vela, the executive president of PROMPERÚ, Luis Torres Paz, and representatives from institutions engaged in foreign trade, performed an X-ray of the sector, especially what has been achieved by small and medium-sized export enterprises.
"In 2004, Mincetur established Exporter's Day in recognition of all those men and women in the industry who contributed to surpassing the goal of $10 billion in exports, a record figure at that time. Last year, we recorded a milestone in the history of our exports: Peru achieved more than $47 billion in shipments. In 15 years, we have quadrupled the value of exports, thanks to the efforts of all the country's exporters", said Minister Vásquez.
PROMPERÚ's executive president, for his part, Luis Torres, recalled that shipments by Peruvian SMEs were worth $1.9 billion in the year in which Exporter's Day was established (2004).
"If we compare that total with what was achieved in 2018, i.e. around $4.23 billion, we can say that the value of SME exports grew by 122% in the last 15 years, an achievement that would not have been possible without the coordinated and constant work of Mincetur, PROMPERÚ and the private sector", he said.
During the Pymes 2021 panel: Working for an exporting Peru it was also revealed that, up to August of this year, the country has promoted the export development of 2,753 Peruvian SMEs, with shipments worth $3.62 billion.
