The professional tasting of Cusquenian teas was conducted by a renowned UNESCO ambassador.
Tea experts and Parisian tea houses were highly pleased with the professional tasting of Cusquenian teas during the International Tea Day event held on May 21 at L'École du Parfum et de la Cosmétique in Paris, France.
To diversify the export offerings and introduce new Peruvian products to the French market, a selection of 10 specialty teas grown in the province of La Convencion, Cusco region, took center stage in a professional tasting event. The tasting was conducted by the distinguished tea expert, ethnobotanist, and UNESCO ambassador, Jeremy Tamen.

Based on their quality and unique organoleptic profile, the selection of teas that were tasted included 6 black teas, 2 green teas, and 2 blends. The producers present were Rubelinda Monteagudo Huaman, Lauri Ibarra Vivanco, Miguel Angel Chura from Tealeros Alfamayo, Landers Salas from Elvira Infusiones, and German Povea from Povea, as well as the Cusquenian companies Runaq and Inkaterra.
Cusco is the primary tea-producing region in Peru, responsible for 68 % of the national total, followed by Huanuco. In this region, there are 63 families dedicated to producing this seed, covering a total of two thousand hectares of crops.
It is worth mentioning that in the European tea market, there is a trend towards premiumization, i.e., adding value to the product. This allows specialty tea suppliers to find new niches for their products. Currently, the primary tea markets include the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Italy.
