Peru, the world's third largest exporter of fresh grapes

Peruvian exports of fresh grapes experienced major growth in 2018, making us the world's third largest exporter of this fruit.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), our country exported fresh grapes totaling US$ 819 million last year, representing an increase of 26% with respect to 2017.

"In 2018, fresh grape shipments grew mainly due to the higher volume exported (+27 %), increasing from 270,000 tons in 2017 to 343,000 tons last year. The efforts of our exporters, added to the intensive promotional campaign of our fruit in the world, have managed to place us in an unprecedented position," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Sayuri Bayona.

This result puts us above Italy and China, which had shipments of $779 million and $690 million, respectively.

At the top, Chile and the United States currently remain the world's first and second largest exporters of fresh grapes, registering shipments of $1,074 million and $926 million, respectively.

Main grape destinations

The United States, the European Union and China are currently the main destinations for our fresh grapes.

It is worth highlighting the significant growth in fruit exports to the European Union (+84 %), which were boosted by higher shipments to Germany.

According to the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Peruvian grapes reach 52 markets.

The main grape exporting regions are Ica and Piura; in 2018, the former made shipments of $369 million (+8%); while the latter reported shipments of $325 million (+50%).
