As part of an intense campaign to promote Peruvian products in China, Peru’s Foreign Trade Office (OCEX) in Beijing presented unprocessed quinoa to potential Chinese importers following the recent signing of a protocol that allows the entry of the Andean grain into the Asian country.
The vice-president of the Republic of Peru, Mercedes Aráoz, presided over the event, which was attended by important business people, the media and the renowned Chinese gourmet, Huang Ke. The latter emphasized the cooperation with OCEX to include quinoa in Chinese cuisine.
"At PROMPERÚ we are promoting the Super Foods Peru global campaign, prioritizing the Chinese market through strategic alliances with local trade and investment partners. We thereby obtain new sales channels and the distribution of our leading exports", said Mario Ocharan, PROMPERÚ Export Promotion Director.
Dishes with a Peruvian flavor such as Quinoa Chaufa, Quinoa Solterito, Quinoto, Causa with quinoa, and Quinoa Pudding were offered to the attendees of the promotional event, who appreciated the flavor and high nutritional value of this grain from the Peruvian Andes.
Huang Zhaohui, who manages the Casa Perú ('Peru House') store, also participated in the event. Casa Perú is the first commercial space in the Chinese capital that offers Peruvian products such as super foods, coffee, and alpaca products, and it promotes Peru as a tourist destination. This is why Huang was recognized as a 'Friend of Peru' last year, an award that is given to people who promote Peru in their respective fields.
Within the framework of the promotion of Peruvian products in the Asian country, Peru Day was celebrated on September 1 at the International Horticulture Exhibition 2019 (Beijing Expo 2019), in which the Peruvian native potato was the star. From September 4 to 6 we will also be the guest of honor at Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong, the main fruit and vegetable fair in Asia.
The export of Peruvian products is promoted around the world at specialized events under the Super Foods Peru brand. The products being prioritized in China are blueberries, grapes, pomegranates, and avocados, among others.
