The Super Foods Peru commercial mission to Beijing promoted maca, quinoa, and sacha inchi, as well as nuts and quinoa and fruit purees, and secured US$408,000 of business over the next 12 months.
The activity gave a boost to the sector-specific brand in the important Chinese market and broadened the number of Peruvian products available to health-conscious consumers.
The mission took place on May 7 and was organized by Peru’s Foreign Trade Office (OCEX in Spanish) in Beijing with support from the Exporter’s Association (ADEX in Spanish) and PROMPERU.
This event is part of the second phase of actions for priority markets planned by the Super Foods Peru brand, in combination with activations targeting end customers. Commercial missions have been sent to Germany, the United States, Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
La Nuez, Agroindustrias Amazónicas, De Guste, Dazze, Quimachi, Promaca and Bio Naturista were the seven companies that formed part of the mission and held business meetings with 30 buyers from northern China.
The mission assembled a group of people that had the chance to enjoy cooking classes, contests and tastings of fruit and grains that are native to Peru.
Peruvian businesspeople also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Chumbo online platform, a web portal that specializes in selling premium imported foodstuffs.
In 2017, Peru's exports of nontraditional agricultural products to China totaled US$59.3 million. The first quarter of this year has already seen US$26.07 million in export earnings, which is 21% more than the same period in 2017.
