Great achievement! For the first time in history, four Peruvian teas from the province of La Convención, Cusco, were awarded prizes in the "Teas of the World Contest" organized by The Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products (AVPA) in Paris (France). The awards ceremony was held on November 18 and companies and producers from Brazil, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Portugal, Turkey, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Vietnam and Taiwan also participated along with Peru.
At the awards ceremony, the Inkaterra hotel group's black tea won the gold medal with its Asanica variety, produced at 2049 m.a.s.l. at its Macchu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, located in the district of Macchu Picchu, province of Urubamba, Cusco. The characteristics of the soils and climate of the area allow this product to have a special chocolate aroma.
Likewise, the white tea of the Machu Picchu Tea Company won the silver medal. This product is grown above 2000 m.a.s.l. in the town of Incatambo, located in the district of Huayopata, Quillabamba, Cusco region. The most tender buds from the Bosque Nublado area were carefully selected to elaborate the best Peruvian white tea, betting on quality and authenticity.
The gourmet diplomas were awarded to the Amaybamba Pistipata Agrarian Cooperative for its Huayopata tea, produced in the province of La Convención, Cusco; as well as to producer Miguel Angel Chura Toledo, from the district of Huayopata, La Conveción, Cusco, for his Alfamayo black tea.
