On November 6th and 7th, the second edition of this business forum organized by PROMPERU was held, aiming to promote the integration of environmental and social factors within exporting companies and those with export potential.
Angelica Matsuda, CEO of PROMPERU, emphasized, 'Our goal is to ensure sustainable development throughout Peru's entire national territory,' during her participation at the 2nd Business Forum: Towards a Sustainable Culture.
Within this context, the CEO highlighted sustainability as a pivotal element in society and business models, emphasizing the significance of the Sustainable Culture strategy.
This strategy encompasses PROMPERU's institutional efforts in environmental, social, and governance matters across all its divisions, with the export sector demonstrating substantial progress through the Fair-Trade Peru, Biocommerce Peru, and Eco-efficiency Peru standards, along with other sustainable management programs and workshops.
These sustainable certifications significantly contribute to adapting the offer by providing a distinguishing element that adds value to Peruvian exports, thereby enhancing their competitiveness.
A clear example is the Fair-Trade Peru standard, aiming for the implementation of socially and environmentally responsible practices, respecting internationally valued fair trade principles highly esteemed in the fashion and decoration industries.
Similarly, schemes tied to the environmental axis, such as the Eco-efficiency Peru Good Practices, are generating a positive impact on the Peruvian textile industry, which is progressively transitioning its management toward a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach, aligning its offerings with global market demands.
In numbers
Remarkable outcomes reflect PROMPERU's work toward a sustainable export industry.
As Angelica Matsuda mentioned during the 2nd Business Forum, by 2023, 300 companies have received technical assistance regarding sustainability programs, and 2700 companies have been trained. Of these, 36% belong to the garment sector.
So far, 28 Peruvian companies have been certified with the Fair-Trade Peru seal in the regions of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Lima, and Puno. Thirty-two companies in the regions of Arequipa, Lima, and Ica have implemented eco-efficiency practices in water, energy, waste, and process optimization.
Additionally, five companies in the alpaca sector in the Arequipa region have been assessed against Biocommerce Peru principles and criteria, accessing the Biocommerce Peru verification seal.
