Peruvian solidarity to the rescue of Puno coffee!
Virgilio Martínez, propietario de Central y embajador de la Mar
Peruvians are famous for their solidarity and there is no doubt that the coffee crops damage caused by the plagues in the Amazon of Puno is enough reason for us to work as a team. To reverse the damage, on July 15, 2015, CECOVASA (Coffee Agricultural Cooperative Central of the Sandia Valleys) and San Juan del Oro prepared the Coffee Rescue Action Plan. "The plan presentation was at the Libertador Hotel in Puno, with the attendance of chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, TVshow host of “Desde el Jardín” (From the Garden) on Plus TV Network; gastronomic critic and Somos magazine columnist, Ignacio Medina; and barista David Torres Bisetti, among others. "Sandia coffee is produced mainly by these two organizations and is the iconic product of Puno’s rainforest. CECOVASA has won seven national awards for the quality of its coffee, and is highly prestigious in other countries. This product is also the symbol of sustainable crops in forest areas, thus contributing to the general development of the Puno region.
