San Martin is the first cacao producing region in Peru, and it shines in other countries as well

Peru received a new recognition for agriculture, this time in San Martin where it was deemed the main cacao producing region, being responsible for almost 40% of all nationwide exports. This accomplishment was presented at the 7th Peru Cacao and Chocolate Show on July 10, 2016 in Lima. San Martin regional governor, Victor Noriega mentioned: ‘’this is the result of the joint work of authorities, businessmen and farmers’’."Touristic circuit Cacao Route was also introduced during this event. It combines tourism and gastronomy providing sustainable development for the region and promoting foreign investment on this area as it has great export potential. "To get to know this route, a group of chocolate businesspeople from countries such as England, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, Italy, Honduras, Mexico, and Chile went to the main locations in San Martin to observe the cacao elaboration process, from crop to production. "The 8th Cacao and Chocolate Regional Festival was also celebrated in the city of Juanjuí, in San Martin, which obtained earnings for over 16 million soles between chocolate sales and cacao export agreements. "Both expositions generated more than 21 million soles in profit, setting a promising future for the region and its star product: cacao.
