For the fifth time, Peru is the best South American Culinary Destination

Peruvian gastronomy keeps surprising the world, this time Peru achieved the award for Best South American Culinary Destination, being this the fifth consecutive time in a row. This recognition was granted by the 2016 World Travel Awards (WTA) regional edition.
The ceremony was at the Swissotel in Lima. Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister and President of the Board of Directors of PROMPERU, Magali Silva Velarde-Álvarez, presented the award in front of the representatives of the main hotel chains, tour operators and other guilds related to tourism in Peru and the rest of South America.
Having three Peruvian restaurants among the top 50 in the world was one of the key factors for obtaining this recognition. Central Restaurant came in 4th place; Maido in 13th and Astrid & Gaston in 30th place. Another fact that makes Peru the favorite country in South America is gastronomic fair Mistura, recently declared a national interest event by MINCETUR.
The winning restaurants and Mistura offer an unforgettable gastronomic experience. They also use ancient agricultural inputs and thus showing the value of Peruvian farmers’ work.
Besides this award, Lima was elected the Best Business Tourism Destination and PROMPERU was recognized as the Best Tourism Office in South America.
