Peruvian restaurant 'Maido', by chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, won first place on the prestigious list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America for the second consecutive year during the gala held last night in the city of Bogotá, which brought together chefs, sommeliers, restaurateurs, influencers and gastronomic journalists from the region.
For its part, the Peruvian restaurant 'Central' by Virgilio Martínez took second place, having previously enjoyed first place for three consecutive years (2014, 2015 and 2016).
The other Peruvian restaurants included in the Latin American list are 'Astrid & Gastón' (8th) and 'La Mar' (17th) by Gastón Acurio, 'Isolina' (13th) by José del Castillo, 'Rafael' (16th) by Rafael Osterling, and 'Ámaz' (48th) and 'Malabar' (39th) by Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
Pía León - who now runs 'Kjolle' - received a special mention for the restaurant 'Central', being named Best Latin American Female Chef, an award announced some weeks ago.
It is worth noting that ever since this list was created six years ago, Peruvian restaurants have been ranked in first place, with the first winner being 'Astrid & Gastón'.
The 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America list is organized by the William Reed Business Media gourmet platform and sponsored by San Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. The selection of Latin America's gastronomic proposals is made by 252 specialists, who vote for their favorite restaurants around the world.
