Promperu estimates business of US$ 4.5 million at IMEX America

The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERU) estimated that during its participation in IMEX America, one of the most important fairs for the incentive travel, meetings and events industry that takes place in the United States, business worth approximately US$ 4.5 million was concluded.

The 2018 edition brought together 3,390 exhibitors from 190 countries and more than 3,000 invited buyers. PROMPERU was present along with six companies from this specialized segment of tourism, meeting with international event planners, giving group presentations and participating in specialized interviews with U.S. meetings tourism media.

The presence of Peruvian institutions and co-exhibitors at IMEX America was supported by Peru’s Foreign Trade Office (OCEX) in Houston, in a collective effort aimed at strengthening the positioning of our country as an ideal destination for the development of events, congresses and incentives.

In addition, as an active member of the International Association of Congresses and Conventions (ICCA), PROMPERU participated in the meeting of this association, networking with event planners from professional associations, research centers and companies, among other institutions looking for venues for their meetings.

It should be noted that ICCA brings together professionals from around the world related to the organization and logistics of the meetings industry, preparing an annual ranking of destinations based on their capacity to host international meetings and events.

SPECIALIZED TOURISM

The meetings tourism sector represents approximately 20% of international visitors worldwide and is characterized by sustained growth rates, which implies high profitability and contribution to the development of other related sectors, such as the industrial, mining, education and agro-industrial sectors, among others.

Peru benefits from a strategic location in the region, with expanding air connectivity, specialized services according to global demands, as well as extensive experience in the development of major international events, to which we add the wonderful cultural and gastronomic offer of our country.

All these attributes enable us to compete with other countries in the region and across the world, so we are currently working actively in the prioritized markets to identify and arrange international meetings that are hosted by our country.
