Supported by the Ministry of Culture, will possibly be one of the most watched movies of this year.

‘Rosa Chumbe’, first film of young Peruvian director Jonatan Relayze, got the highest award at last year’s Lima Film Festival. It got chosen best Peruvian film, winning over films -La última noticia”, -Solos”, and -Magallanes”.

Rosa Chumbe tells the story of a Peruvian police woman whose daily routine is interrupted when Sheyla, her 18 year old daughter, steals the little savings she has and runs away from home leaving her small son behind. This episode will mark a turning point in Rosa’s life, who will be forced to take care of the child, rediscovering her forgotten maternal instinct. Learning to see life from a different perspective.

The film portrays a coherent view of the working-class, specifically how Peruvians worship saints like Señor de los Milagros and its procession, where the director places his leading woman. Peruvian actress Liliana Trujillo won Best Actress for her first leading role, at the Independent International Film Festival, on April 23th in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Peruvian cinema continues to grow, not only evolving in genres like comedy and horror, but also drama with more complex stories, showing the reality of many Peruvian families, creating a national cinematographic identity.
