Peruvian singer Eva Ayllón has just been awarded one of the Special Latin Grammy Awards. Her career, which marks a major artistic contribution to Latin music, was recognized with the Award for Musical Excellence 2019.
The tribute to the Peruvian singer by the Latin Academy of Arts and Sciences was held at a private ceremony and lunch at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas as part of the 20th anniversary of the Latin Grammy Awards.
Ayllon's award was the first to be presented at the gala, with three-time Latin Grammy winner, Gian Marco Zignago, presenting it. It was a very emotional moment, the Peruvian artists giving each other a moving embrace.
"It is an immense pleasure and honor for me to present the first prize. I had the chance to meet her many years ago, and my heart was melting as soon as I heard the notes of her voice", said the Peruvian singer-songwriter.
Eva Ayllón for her part gave an affectionate speech of gratitude, highlighting her roots. "This award means a lot to me. When I heard about this honor, it was incredible. I dedicate it to my country because it is the one I represent and where it belongs. I thank all the artists who have done everything possible since the 1950s to keep this folklore alive", Eva said.
"And to my grandmother who was the one who showed me how to make this music. Thanks to my country, the Academy and life for these wonderful things that happen to us", added the distinguished Creole singer.
Other artists who received this important recognition include: ‘El Puma’ Rodríguez, Pimpinela, Lupita D’Alessio, Joan Baez, José Cid, Hugo Fattoruso, Omara Portuondo and Mario Kaminsky.
