Peru wins four medals at Judo

Our Peruvian judo team recently won four medals, one gold and three bronze, during its participation at the Santiago de Chile Pan American Open 2019.
Yuta Galarreta (-90 kg) won a gold medal, while Alonso Wong (-73 kg), Xsara Morales (-70 kg) and Brillith Gamarra (52 kg) won bronze medals.
Galarreta began the tournament by beating local Gabriel Fica by ippon, and then defeated the French representative, Antony Joubert in the golden score. In the semifinals, our sportsman obtained a further victory, defeating the Canadian Mohab El Nahas by ippon; and in the grand final, Yuta Galarreta won by a waza-ari, in the golden score, beating the Frenchman Lorenzo Perricone.
The cities of Lima (March 9 and 10), Córdoba (March 16 and 17) and Santiago de Chile (March 23 and 24) were part of the judo circuit.
18 Peruvians selected participated in the Santiago de Chile competition. They were headed by Brillith Gamarra (-52 kg), Camila Figueroa (-78 kg), Alonso Wong (-73 kg), Yuta Galarreta (-90 kg) and José Arroyo (-100 kg), among others.
This competition was held prior to the Pan American Championship that will take place in the Peruvian capital, from April 24 to 28.
It is worth mentioning that this event is the most important for judo athletes on the continent, as it provides qualification for Lima 2019.
