Peru's top opera singer, Juan Diego Flórez, will now travel around the world accompanied by one of the sought-after suitcases which showcase the tourist attractions of our country.
The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERU) presented the suitcase from the ‘Message in a suitcase’ campaign to the acclaimed Peruvian tenor, who arrived in our capital to participate on July 26th in the opening ceremony of the 18th Pan American Games and 6th Parapan American Games Lima 2019.
"I feel great joy and emotion to be part of the most important sporting event that Peru has held in its history. Today, many Peruvian products, such as coffee and pisco sours, can be found around the world. There is an increasing number of Peruvian restaurants and our cuisine is in fashion. All this fills me with pride," said Juan Diego when he received the suitcase.
For his part, PROMPERU’s executive president Luis Torres expressed gratitude for the voluntary commitment taken on by Juan Diego in promoting the country and honoring Peru's name. "We are sure that the Peruvian suitcase will accompany him on his tours around the world, and that millions will be thrilled to hear his voice at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Lima Games," he said.
Flórez will perform with the Sinfonía por el Perú youth orchestra at the opening ceremony of the Pan American Games. According to the organizers, this event will have an audience of approximately 400 million people around the world, allowing it to showcase the best that Peru has to offer on the international stage.
It should be highlighted that the participation of our tenor Juan Diego Flórez in these Pan American Games has been made possible thanks to the coordinated work between the Lima 2019 organization and PROMPERU.
‘MESSAGE IN A SUITCASE’ CAMPAIGN
This campaign, which was launched last May, aims to show off Peru's tourist attractions at an international level. The ad features a talking suitcase which 'invites' foreign tourists to visit Peru. https://bit.ly/2IX1R5e.
In an effort to boost tourism, promote exports and attract investments to our country, MINCETUR (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism) carries out various promotional campaigns through PROMPERU both nationally and internationally, hand in hand with the private sector, in order to generate foreign income for the benefit of all Peruvians.
Likewise, Peruvian cuisine is being increasingly recognized around the world, promoting our flagship products, such as pisco, superfoods, alpaca and specialty coffees, to name a few.

Tourism is one of Peru’s main economic activities, contributing 4% of the national GDP and creating more than 1.4 million jobs, thanks to its knock-on effect and the long production chain it generates –especially for SMEs– directly benefiting the regions that are visited and empowering the female workforce.
