The whole of Peru celebrate: The Amazon was recognised as a Natural Wonder

The whole of Peru celebrate: The Amazon was recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of the world in a ceremony that took place on 13 August 2012 on the Amazon River in the presence of President Ollanta Humala, national and regional authorities, as well as representatives of the New7Wonders foundation.

Bernard Weber, President of the Foundation, said that with this official recognition, the Amazon "is now positioned at the beginning of the third millennium and forms part of the global memory of seven places that will always be in the memories of all people on our planet".

With this recognition, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Jose Luis Silva Martinot, stated: "this can stimulate the growth of numbers of foreign tourists coming to the Amazon by 15% and we believe that the number of domestic tourists will increase".
