Machu Picchu voted "Top Dream Destination"

The Peruvian wonder Machu Picchu was crowned "Top Dream Destination 2018" in the first Virtuoso Travel Dreams Tournament, where it competed with 16 top international destinations. This is how the majestic Inca citadel is seen internationally, as one of the most desired places to visit in the world.

After three weeks of competition and getting through four voting stages, Peru's impressive historic sanctuary beat destinations such as the Swiss Alps, Paris, Greece, Tuscany and the Galapagos, among others. It managed to beat New Zealand in the final stretch.

The announcement was made through the Virtuoso Life blog: "The 15^th century Inca citadel is a worthy champion, with its imposing green mountains, dazzling labyrinths, plazas, terraces and temples", emphasizing that the option chosen to visit it, by train or by doing the Inca Trail, makes no difference, since "Machu Picchu definitely deserves the status of a dream trip".

PROMPERÚ carried out several activities to raise awareness of the competition and encourage travelers to vote for Machu Picchu, declared Natural and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Thanks to this achievement, the Peruvian wonder will have greater exposure and special recognition in the next edition of Virtuoso Life magazine.

It is worth mentioning that Machu Picchu has been the main feature of several lists ranking it as one of the best places to visit in the world and as a must-see destination in recent years. It has also been considered one of the places that has appeared most on Instagram in 2017 thanks to the users of this network, impressed by the magnitude and beauty of the Inca citadel, a sensation that has to be experienced. 

Virtuoso is a network of the best luxury travel agencies in the USA, with more than 17,500 advisors worldwide, and it is the first time that the tournament has been held.

As PROMPERÚ recently reported, Peru consolidated its position last year as the top destination receiving US tourists in South America with 598,685 arrivals, surpassing Colombia and Brazil, which ranked second and third, respectively. According to the Foreign Tourist Profile, the average spending of a US tourist is US$1,485, while the average foreign tourist expenditure overall is US$964. Moreover,  the main activities carried out by American visitors to our country are focused on culture, nature and adventure.
