Peru is among the five most competitive tourist destinations in Latin America, according to the latest Global Competitiveness Report, prepared by the World Economic Forum.
In the last four years, Peru has climbed nine positions (from 58 to 49) in the world ranking. This is due to the growth in travel and tourism sector pillars such as tourism service infrastructure (advancing 14 positions in the last two years) and suitable policies in price competitiveness (scoring 5.3 out of a maximum of 7).
"Out of a total of 20 Latin American countries, Peru has managed to become one of the top five in tourism competitiveness, in addition to improving notably at a global level in recent years. These results confirm that our country continues to be a major international tourist destination, and that it is constantly working to offer foreign tourists the best travel experience", stressed the executive president of PROMPERU, Luis Torres Paz.
It is important to point out that in order to measure the level of tourism services infrastructure in a country, the World Economic Forum study took into account indicators ranging from the number of hotel rooms to efficient access to services such as car rental and ATMs.
In relation to price competitiveness, Peru was recognized as showing the greatest improvement in the Americas because it has adapted its tourism opportunities to offer lower costs, a factor which has increased the interest of many travelers. The pillar analyzed is characterized by taking into account airfare taxes and airport charges, the relative cost of hotel accommodation, and the cost of living in the country, among other items.
