Peru receives four awards at the World Travel Awards South America 2019

Our country has recently been distinguished with four awards at the World Travel Awards (WTA) South America 2019. During the gala, held last Saturday in La Paz, Bolivia, “The Oscar of Tourism" awarded Peru in the categories ‘Best culinary destination in South America’, ‘Best cultural destination in South America’ and ‘Best tourist attraction in South America: Machu Picchu’.
Furthermore, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exportation and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) was awarded the Best Tourism Office in South America for the fourth consecutive year.
These recognitions respond to the multiple promotion activities that PROMPERÚ carries out in the prioritized markets for tourism, such as campaigns, participation in specialized fairs, roadshows and training, among others, that make the tourism segment in Peru develop furthering the productive chain that is dedicated to this activity.
"These triumphs support the intense promotion work led by PROMPERÚ, MINCETUR and the tourism sector, which demonstrates an articulated work between the public and private sectors. All these efforts give value to our country before the eyes of the world, position it as a destination full of history, culture, nature and delicious cuisine recognized globally, "said Luis Torres Paz, Executive President of PROMPERU.
These awards are summed to the recent recognitions received by Travel and Leisure, which placed the cities of Cusco and Lima among the favorites in Latin America, and recognized hotels in our country as the best in the world. Also, the ranking of Country RepTrack 2019, which placed us at the head of the region in its list of 55 countries in the world.
WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS
The WTA South America is one of the most prestigious events in the travel industry in our region and was attended by the leading experts in the industry. On behalf of our country, the commercial economic advisor of the Commercial Office of Peru Abroad (OCEX) of Bolivia, Pedro Guevara, attended.
The winners of the South American edition will compete in the world edition of the awards, which will be held on November 28 in Oman. In 2018, Peru was chosen Best cultural destination and Machu Picchu won as Best tourist attraction, while we triumphed for the seventh consecutive year as the best culinary destination in the world.

The World Travel Awards are considered the 'Oscars of Tourism', according to the prestigious American newspaper The Wall Street Journal and have 26 years of experience recognizing excellence in all sectors of the tourism and travel industry.
The winners are chosen thanks to the vote of the public in the organization's online platform, in which tourism professionals, businessmen from the sector and travelers from different places take part.
