Peru Wins “Leading Green Destination”

Peru was picked as the “Leading Green Destination” at the ceremony of the prestigious 2017 World Travel Awards - South America Region, which recognize excellence in the region’s travel and tourism industry, reported the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PROMPERÚ).
“Peru is a biodiverse country, and our promotional efforts have centered on gaining worldwide recognition for our destination in this segment. This award underscores the fact that the commercial arena is recognizing the natural riches we offer, which are complemented by our history and culture,” explained PROMPERÚ’s Director of Tourism, Marisol Acosta.
Peru’s private-sector hospitality and tourist services industry also received distinctions in the following categories:
• Leading Business Hotel in South America: Swissotel Lima.
• Leading Airport Hotel: Costa del Sol Lima Airport.
• Leading Hotel & Casino Resort in South America: Los Delfines Hotel.
• Leading Resort in South America: Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa.
• Leading Travel Agency in South America: Costamar.
• Leading Private Jet Charter: ATSA.
PROMPERÚ was also named “South America’s Leading Tourist Board” for the second year running. This year it competed with the tourist boards of Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile.
It is worth noting that 56% of all international visitors come to Peru from South America.
The ceremony took place on September 9 in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. The winners of the World Travel Awards (WTA) - South America Region will compete for the top honors internationally, to be announced at the ceremony on December 10 in Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
