Peru has won three awards at the 25th World Travel Awards ceremony, demonstrating the great growth of tourism in the country.
For the seventh consecutive year, Peru won the award for Best Culinary Destination. In recent years, the planning and implementation of the promotion of Peruvian cuisine has achieved outstanding results: currently, we have three Peruvian establishments on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
The second prize was received thanks to Machu Picchu, after being considered by the critics and the international tourists who visit us to be the Best Tourist Attraction. The sanctuary comprises archaeological complexes and a wide variety of ecosystems, which is why it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
However, the exceptional Peruvian cuisine was not the only winner in this important event, which was attended by the director of the Commercial Office of Peru in Belgium and Luxembourg, Maria del Rosario Pajuelo, who received the awards. The second prize of the night was for Machu Picchu, considered by the critics and international tourists, who visit us to be the Best Tourist Attraction. The sanctuary comprises archaeological complexes and a wide variety of ecosystems, which is why it has been declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO since 1983.
And Peru’s third award was for Best Cultural Destination, in recognition of the country’s great, invaluable and well-preserved archaeological heritage. Our country also has a vibrant and active contemporary cultural life, with museums and art galleries which show the best creations of our artists.
The World Travel Awards, considered to be the “Oscars of Tourism”, according to the prestigious US newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, took place at the Pátio da Galé in Lisbon (Portugal) and were attended by prominent opinion leaders, international media and the most influential business people in the sector.
For over 25 years, these awards have recognized excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. The winners are chosen by public vote on the organization’s online platform, which involves tourism professionals, industry business people and a variety of travelers.
