The New York Times includes Lima in its list of places to visit in 2020

Lima is one of the best places to visit in 2020. The capital of Peru was included in the annual '52 places to go in 2020' list prepared by the prestigious American newspaper The New York Times.
"Lima today is arguably the culinary epicenter of South America, a city full of famous chefs and extravagant dishes of outstanding food", the paper said, adding that the Peruvian metropolis is "a rich historical and cultural capital full of perfect images like the Plaza Mayor, museums full of ancient treasures like the Museo Larco and artisan mansions like Dédalo Arte.
"Keeping our destinations within view of the world's tourists is a task that we carry out at MINCETUR and PROMPERU with intensive international promotion campaigns. Tourism is one of our country's main economic activities, and benefits a wide supply chain. This recognition from The New York Times should therefore fill all Peruvians with pride", highlighted PROMPERU's Executive President, Luis Torres.
It should be noted that The New York Times is one of the most read newspapers in the world and publishes this list annually, highlighting places to inspire, delight and motivate its readers to explore the world.
American tourists in Peru
The United States is the second most important country in terms of tourists coming to Peru, but the one that leaves the country with most foreign currency. Peru received 641,280 American tourists in 2018, representing an increase of 7.1 % with respect to the previous year. This represented 15 % of total arrivals.
A total of 598,545 tourists arrived from this part of North America between January and November of last year, representing an increase of 3% with respect to the same period in 2018.
According to the Foreign Tourist Profile prepared by PROMPERU, American tourists mainly engage in activities focused on culture, nature and adventure. Their average expenditure is $1445 and generates $769 million in foreign exchange.
