Peru not only has an infinity beautiful tourist attractions, full of history, culture and landscapes of unparalleled beauty; we also have a vision of sustainable tourism, which respects, nature and protects the environment. Thanks to this ecological commitment, nine Peruvian destinations have been nominated by Green Destinations – a Dutch non-profit organization focused on the promotion of sustainable tourism – so that the public can award their favorite 100 best practices story of 2021, in which they highlight the most sustainable places in the world for being the most authentic, natural, green and clean on the planet.
Peruvian destinations belong to eight different regions of the coast, the Andes and the Amazon: Tambopata (Madre de Dios), Alto Mayo – Tarapoto (San Martín), Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (Loreto), Gocta – Kuélap (Amazonas), Pómac Forest (Lambayeque), Tingo María National Park (Huánuco), Lake Titicaca (Puno), Sandía and Bahuaja Sonene National Park (Madre de Dios and Puno), Colca (Arequipa). Thanks to these nominations, Peru is the country with the most sustainable destinations in the Americas and the third globally.
The award also seeks to recognize the best stories of good practices in tourism, which focus on sustainability and serve as inspiration to other countries, destinations and tour operators.
The public will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite destination with the People's Choice Awards. All Peruvians can support the destination that fills them with pride through this link. To ensure fair selection, votes are limited to one per person.
