Peruvian woman triumphs with technological innovation project

Last August, Peruvian Giuliana Huamán, together with a work team made up of members from Brazil, Bolivia and Greece, won the prize for best project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Bootcamp.

The Pangea project won first place among more than 30 projects and seeks to be a technological innovation solution in the production of premium coffee.

For 8 years, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the most prestigious institutions worldwide, has gathered the most outstanding figures in innovation and entrepreneurship to apply for the bootcamp, one of the most select and demanding training spaces in the world. This year it took place in Rio de Janeiro, attended by 140 applicants selected from 6,000.

Giuliana Huamán, who was part of Team Pangea along with Eduardo Malta and Michel Haity Moussatche from Brazil, Sebastian Pereira from Bolivia and Odysseas Lamtzidis from Greece, has become the first Peruvian to win recognition in the eight editions of this innovation event.

"This has been the most intense program of my life. I have lived with 140 people from all over the world with incredible professional profiles, and I have learned from great coaches and figures such as Bill Aulet, a leading light in entrepreneurship. My learning at this bootcamp and having won first place shows us that Peruvians, and especially Peruvian women, are capable of continuing to develop in the field of innovation and technology, achieving great advances in our personal growth, professional growth and for our country," said Giuliana.

Pangea is an e-marketplace (online shopping platform) that confirms that any product sold through it is original, meets the highest quality standards and is certified. On this occasion, the project was directed at premium Brazilian coffee and for this purpose they have proposed implementing devices with blockchain and metadata technology in the farmers' fields. This proposal also seeks to increase the production of premium coffee in Brazil and improve fair trade for farmers in the country.

Giuliana is an innovation & creativity consultant, executive trainer, CEO and founder of EMPODERATEC, storyteller and mentor of startup incubators in the country. She returned to Peru to make the acquired knowledge available to businesses and the ecosystem.
