Peru Brand sail to fly all along the American continent

A sail with the Peru Brand logo will fly across the American seas when the BAP Unión begins its transoceanic voyage in 2021. The deal was sealed on September 27th, World Tourism Day, when PROMPERÚ formally presented the ship's main sail with the Peru Brand.

The vessel will tour Peruvian and international ports, providing information about our products and tourist destinations, which can be visited once the health standards and protocols are in place. This strategic alliance between the Navy and PROMPERÚ proves, once again, that together we go further.

The tour will begin in 2020 in northern Peru, arriving at the ports of Salaverry (Lambayeque) and Paita (Piura), where the ship will set sail to promote domestic tourism and the biosafety protocols implemented as part of the recovery of tourism.

Starting next year, the Peruvian Navy's training ship, the second largest of its kind in the world, will tour the Americas, promoting inbound tourism in strategic countries, as well as Peru’s history, ancient culture, tourist attractions, cuisine and main export products. It is estimated that on its voyage it will receive 3,000 visitors in each port, and will attract some 40,000 people along the way.

The vessel already had a Peru Hall, where part of our culture was displayed. Now it will carry ‘Casa Perú’ (Peru House), with articles from our sectoral brands Super Foods Peru, Alpaca del Perú, Cafés del Perú and Pisco Spirit of Peru.

A model ship

The BAP Unión is a sailing ship measuring 372 feet in length with a draft of 20 feet. It was built in 2015 at the shipyard in the port of Callao. In July 2017, this modern vessel arrived at the West India Docks in London, with 134 sailors on board in the training phase, in what was its first European voyage. 

Since it was launched, the BAP Unión has undertaken a voyage every 12 months, visiting various countries around the world. At each port, hundreds of onlookers came to admire the floating structure and find out about the latest developments in Peru. Now, they will have even more reasons to enthusiastically welcome the ship.
