Peruvian fish products stand out at Seafood Expo

Shrimp, mahi-mahi and giant squid were the Peruvian foods in greatest demand at the Seafood Expo North America, which took place in Boston and is considered to be the biggest fair specializing in fish products in the US, the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Board – PROMPERÚ reported.
This fair is a meeting place that provides an opportunity to contact clients, access new offers, meet buyers and get up-to-date with technology, as well as with market trends, prices, supplies, quality and regulations.
More than 1,200 exhibitors took part from over 40 countries and 21,600 buyers from 100 countries turned out in pursuit of fresh, frozen and added-value products.
Seventeen companies were involved in the Peruvian delegation and generated over US$ 32.5 million in business deals that will be formalized in the coming twelve months.
In addition to the in-demand shrimp, mahi-mahi and giant squid, scallops were also presented and, as new products, there was flavored hake and frozen, ready-to-eat ceviche.
Oily fish included Peruvian anchovy and mackerel, rich in Omega 3 oils and essential amino acids. These form part of the Super Foods Peru campaign and aroused the interest of professionals.
It is worth mentioning that non-traditional fish exports to the US amounted to US$ 231 million in 2017, putting it in first place as a target market and showing a 15% increase with regard to 2016.
