Industria Perú closes with US$ 107 million in sales

The 2019 edition of Industria Perú, an important international business event for the miscellaneous manufactured articles sector, achieved sales of US$ 107.3 million to be finalized over the next 12 months, surpassing the figure initially forecast by US$ 4.3 million.
A total of 184 buyers from 34 markets participated in this commercial platform, 72% of which attended the event for the first time. South America had the largest number of delegations (117 representatives) and was led by Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia and Chile; followed by Central America and the Caribbean (25), North America (24), Europe (11) and Asia and Oceania (7).
In addition, 241 Peruvian businesspeople attended the event, 87% being from micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). It is worth mentioning that for 20% of them this was their first export experience. Buyers and exporters arranged 2,500 business meetings during this edition.
The products in highest demand included steel balls, mining machinery (locomotives, geomembranes, crushers), flexible packaging for food, decking, wooden doors and floors, natural oils and colorants, hyperbaric chambers and disposable medical clothing.
In relation to business areas, mining suppliers generated the highest number of agreements (32%), as well as construction materials and finishes (16%), while packaging and equipment for the food industry obtained the same percentage (15%).
Cosmetics and natural ingredients (7%), equipment, medical and pharmaceutical materials (5%), wood products (5%), auto parts (4%) and power lines (1%) also aroused some interest.
Other activities
A seminar was also held during this edition on financial access and logistics operators; an information roundtable with competitive funding: INNÓVATE Peru, Internationalization Support Program (PAI) and CONCYTEC (National Council of Science, Technology and Innovation). In addition to a financial and logistics roundtable with the participation of 50 exporting companies and with industry export potential.
Wood buyers also visited Pucallpa, Lima, Iñapari and Puerto Maldonado to promote the use of little known species, stimulating a more sustainable management of tropical forests; and other importers went on industrial tours to more than 80 factories in Lima, Junín and Arequipa.
Bicentennial Goal
Within the framework of Industria Perú, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Edgar Vásquez Vela, launched the new promotion strategy for the miscellaneous manufactured articles sector to boost shipments of these items to the world by 2021.
"These strategies and action plans made available to Peruvian businessmen are aimed at the global goal of achieving the record figure of US$ 5 billion in manufacturing exports by the Bicentennial of Peruvian Independence", he reiterated.
Industria Perú 2019 was organized by PROMPERÚ and had the support of the various Commercial Offices of Peru Abroad (OCEX), the National Society of Industries (SNI) and the Ministry of Production.
