Peru inaugurated its first multi-brand store in Beijing, China: “Tienda Casa Perú”. The store is located in Sanlitun, one of the Asian city’s main shopping and fashion centers.
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia, pointed out that this is new stage in Peru’s trade promotion in China, the most populated country in the world.
“This store is the result of the alliance created between the public and private sector. Mincetur, Promperú and fifteen Peruvian companies have made it possible. So as of today, we are introducing the people of China to Alpaca clothing and accessories, as well as handicrafts, jewelry, superfoods, coffee and pisco, among other things,” he explained.
The inauguration of the store was attended by the president of the China Federation of Urban Commercial Outlets Construction Administration (Cuco), Xuan Chunlei; the president of World Link, Huang Zhaohui; Peru’s ambassador to China, Luis Felipe Quesada; Promperú's Director of Exports, Luis Torres; and the Head of Peru’s Foreign Trade Offices, Teresa Mera.
It should be noted that Peru has had a Free Trade Agreement with China since 2009. The results have been significant for Peru: the Asian giant has become Peru’s leading global trade partner.
In September 2018, total exports to China reached US$ 10.16 billion, up 21%. Non-traditional exports amounted to more than US$ 389 million, up 22.3%. The value-added products that stand out are: squid, alpaca fiber and garments, grapes, avocados and berries.
Minister Rogers Valencia stressed that there is great potential to continue expanding Peruvian exports. Products such as coffee, cacao and chocolate, shrimp, trout, blueberries, quinoa, maca, herbs and roots, clothing, and educational and editorial services have a lot of potential.
