Iberian entrepreneurs consider Peru a safe and attractive destination for foreign investment.
The recent International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2022), one of the most important events in the international tourism industry, was a great opportunity for Peru. The Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) reported that our country, as a result of the promotional activities in Spain during the event, generated interest in a portfolio of investment projects valued at more than $950 million.
“Spanish companies consider our country a very attractive and safe destination for foreign investment, not only because it is a widely known market for them, but because, over time, an atmosphere of trust has been created with Peru that exceeds the relationship that Spain has with other Latin American countries. These aspects make the decision of this European power to do business with us viable,” said Amora Carbajal, executive president of PROMPERÚ.
Tourism, construction, high technology, food industries and textiles were the sectors that generated the most interest among investors.
During a business meeting held at the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), PROMPERÚ attracted attendees' interest in our multi-sector portfolio of 72 projects, representing an estimated investment of $787.5 million. In addition, investors focused their attention on infrastructure projects in the Peruvian tourism sector, such as the Choquequirao Park Cable Car (Cusco-Apurimac) and the Central Lima - Cerro San Cristóbal Cable Car project, valued at more than $200 million.
This event, which brought together representatives of Spanish industry associations and companies, also served to listen to some suggestions, especially those that would improve business opportunities. In this regard, it highlights the call for administrative simplification to facilitate the work of Hispanic companies currently operating in Peru or that are interested in investing in our territory. They also suggested signing an agreement to avoid double taxation between Peru and Spain.
With these results, PROMPERÚ, through its commercial office in Madrid and the Directorate of Business Investment, reaffirms its work of organizing and leading the country's participation in various events and business meetings to show Peru's potential for foreign investment and our offer in investment projects, promoting, on this occasion, the best of our country to the most outstanding organizations in the Iberian country.
