Peru was present at the recent edition of 'Ventana Sur', the most important audiovisual content market in Latin America. PROMPERÚ participated through 'Film in Peru', a promotional strategy that aims to position Peru as a location for audiovisual productions.
Being an exceptional land, with a vast natural and cultural offer, Peru has become the ideal location for audiovisual productions and a center that attracts international productions due to the technical capacity of its professionals.
During Ventana Sur, which took place from December 2-6 in Buenos Aires, the Peru stand was the place where Peruvian professionals could present their projects and establish links for future co-productions with other countries, the aim being to promote the internationalization of Peruvian cinema, as well as exports of animation services.
"Ventana Sur is a space that offers an important exposure to Peruvian production and our country, as well as the talent and professionalism of those who form part of the industry in our country. The Peruvian presence is growing year after year, and many projects, co-productions and opportunities to circulate our productions will undoubtedly arise from this", said Pierre Emile Vandoorne, director of Audiovisual Direction, Phonography and New Media (DAFO).
Peruvian projects
The Peruvian delegation presented works in the different sections of the festival, such as: Animation! ('Chicho y Darz', 'Vigilados', 'Love Quest', 'Punolo, aventura de altura', 'Tinkina y los juguetes mágicos', La Pandilla Zancuda' and 'Gato Ocho'); Blood Windows (El Eterno Interior); and Primer Corte.
‘Gilma’, a co-production between Peru and Venezuela, was the winner of the NMF and COLOR FRONT Awards in the Primer Corte section. This film will also participate in the Málaga Festival as it is one of the four Peruvian projects selected, together with Delivery Girl; Teo and Toque de queda.
Vandoorne, director of the SWOT, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement of the Málaga Festival, reporting the inclusion of several Peruvian projects in different sections for its next edition. "We have a strategic alliance with the festival, which allows us to give new talents from our country the opportunity to meet other South American producers. This type of space unites us culturally and increases the possibilities we have when we work together", said Vandoorne.
Seven Peruvian films were in addition screened during the festival, being seen by distributors and the press, and generating excellent reviews; they include the fiction film La pasión de Javier by Eduardo Guillot and the documentary El viaje de Javier Heraud, by Javier Corcuera, about the life of the Peruvian poet; La Cantera, by Miguel Barreda; La Bronca, by Daniel and Diego Vega; Gilma, by Alexandra Herao; Mi Barrios Altos Querido, by Jimmy Valdivieso, and Público Cautivo, by Beto Ortiz.
