Half Marathon des Sables Peru: Spaniard Chencho Yánez and Canadian Emily Sabo emerge victorious

The Spaniard Chencho Yánez and Canadian Emily Sabo were proclaimed men's and women's champions, respectively, in the second edition of the Half Marathon des Sables (HMDS) Peru, held from December 3 to 6 in the desert of Ica.
Yáñez, who was a volunteer in the first edition of the HMDS in Ica, won gold this year by coming top in the men's overall standings. The silver medal went to the Peruvian runner Emerson Trujillo, with third place for the Portuguese Dário Moitoso.
Emily Sabo was proclaimed champion of this edition in the women's category, while second place went to the Frenchwoman Mélanie Rousset, and third place to the Peruvian Lucy Mejía Campó.
Outstanding Spanish performance
There was an outstanding performance by Spanish runners in this second edition of the Marathon des Sables Perú. The WAA Arista Pro Team distinguished itself and finished in the top ten of the general standings, with victory for Chencho Yánez, eighth place for Juanjo Rodríguez and ninth pace for Raúl Latorre. Yolanda Martínez also achieved fourth place in the women's category.
Adidas athlete Chema Martinez also featured, managing to finish fourth in the men's general category.
