The best in the world! Peru is chosen as the best cultural and gastronomic destination on the planet

Our country won three awards at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2021. Peru was chosen as World’s Leading Culinary Destination and World’s Leading Cultural Destination. In addition, Machupicchu was chosen as World’s Leading Tourist Attraction.

A source of great pride for the whole nation! The prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA), known as “The Oscars of Tourism,” awarded Peru three recognitions in its global edition: World’s Leading Culinary Destination 2021, World’s Leading Cultural Destination 2021 and, additionally, Machupicchu was chosen as the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2021.

This is a great honor as the WTAs recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. Within the travel and tourism industry, they are the highest accolades a country can achieve.

These important awards continue to position our country as one of the most attractive worldwide, thanks to our unique combination of rich biodiversity, ancient history and culture, unparalleled cuisine, as well as the perfect destination for tourists seeking adventure and new and unique experiences.

This achievement has been made possible thanks to our cultural, gastronomic and natural wealth, but also because of the efforts of millions of Peruvians -businessmen, chefs, historians, entrepreneurs, artisans and more- who bet on Peru and work to show the best of our country to the world; as well as the support and work of the Peru Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PROMPERU.)

The competition included tourist attractions from all over the world, which makes this award much more deserving. For example, in the same category in which Machupicchu was the winner, the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates; EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum in Ireland; Grand Canyon National Park in the United States; Niagara Falls in Canada; the Taj Mahal in India; and many other attractions globally competed.

This is not the first time that Peru stands out at the WTAs. Our performance as a country has been remarkable in previous editions of the prestigious awards. Peru was the winner of the World’s Leading Culinary Destination category for eight consecutive years until 2019. In addition, that same year, our country also won the award for World’s Leading Culinary Destination and Machupicchu was once again chosen as the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction. Thanks to the new award received, Machupicchu has already been chosen as the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction four times: 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

This is not the only source of pride we have achieved in 2021. Peru was also a winner at the World Cruise Awards 2021 with two awards: Latin America’s Best River Cruise Destination and World’s Best River Cruise Destination. In addition, the website peru.travel won the award for Best Tourism Authority Website at the World Travel Tech Awards 2021. We say goodbye to 2021 full of Peruvian pride!
