The event is scheduled for May 11th of this year and anticipates a strong turnout.
Attention, Peru! Since 2015, the Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University in New York, USA, has been running the Global Big Day. This event gathers professionals and birdwatching fans to document every bird species they can spot within a 24-hour window at a chosen location worldwide. They then share this data on the eBird platform or through the eBird Mobile app.
Since the first edition of the Global Big Day in 2015, Peru has always participated thanks to the dedicated efforts of its scientists and bird enthusiasts, obtaining very good results. In 2015, 2016, and 2021, Peru obtained the first place, while the rest of the years it achieved the second place.

Certainly! In the 2023 edition, the nation secured the second spot, boasting a total of 1449 bird species. Hence, it is anticipated to reclaim the top position in this year's 2024 edition. The event is held on the second Saturday of May each year, so the 2024 edition will be held on May 11 throughout the day.
Therefore, birdwatching enthusiasts can explore Peru's diverse natural landscapes, including designated areas such as the Alto Mayo Protected Forest in San Martin, Tingo Maria National Park in Huanuco, Bosque de Pomac Historical Sanctuary in Lambayeque, Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve in Loreto, Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary in Tumbes, Lagunas de Mejia National Sanctuary in Arequipa, and Ampay National Sanctuary in Apurimac.
