We keep moving forward! Over 160 cocoa and coffee producers and exporters from the towns of Jaen (Cajamarca), Quillabamba (Cusco), Tarapoto (San Martin), and Pichanaqui (Junin) participated in practical workshops on due diligence. These workshops were organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERU) with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the NGO Rikolto.
The goal of these workshops was clear: to help producers keep exporting their products to the European Union while complying with the new European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR). This regulation bans the import and export of products linked to deforestation, so our producers need to understand and implement due diligence processes.

Participants, including producers, technicians, managers from exporting organizations, and representatives from institutions connected to the coffee and cocoa value chains, received valuable insights on ensuring product traceability and meeting the rigorous requirements of the EUDR. These workshops offered best practices for implementing these processes and guidance on the deadlines and steps needed to comply with the regulations.

The power of coffee and cocoa
The importance of this effort cannot be overstated. Coffee and cocoa are among the top Peruvian exports to the European Union, accounting for 54 % and 38 % of exports, respectively. Our organizations must adapt swiftly to these new requirements to maintain and grow their exports, ensuring stable incomes for producers.
PROMPERU, through its Sustainable Culture strategy, is dedicated to supporting Peruvian exporters by helping them adapt to new international regulations and promoting sustainability in our exports. These workshops bring our producers closer to meeting international standards, ensuring responsible and sustainable trade.
