Peruvian asparagus has become one of the country’s top agricultural exports, securing Peru’s place as one of the world’s leading suppliers. Its cultivation has played a key role in diversifying the nation’s export offerings and driving the growth of the agribusiness sector.
ASPARAGUS PRODUCTION IN PERU
Peru is one of the world’s leading asparagus producers, alongside countries like Mexico, China, and Germany. Thanks to its favorable climate, the Peruvian coast serves as the heart of the country’s impressive asparagus production.
According to the Peruvian Asparagus and Vegetable Institute (IPEH), the main asparagus-growing regions in Peru are La Libertad, Ica, Lambayeque, Ancash, and Lima. Notably, the first three regions account for 89 % of the total area dedicated to asparagus cultivation in the country.

A CRUCIAL FACTOR
A key factor in the success of Peruvian asparagus exports has been the agricultural sector's ability to meet stringent quality standards, international certifications, and phytosanitary regulations required by global markets.
In recent years, the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) has conducted training sessions, lectures, and field workshops for thousands of producers in regions where asparagus is a key export product.
Another major advantage of Peruvian asparagus is its ability to be produced year-round. Unlike other producing countries, such as Mexico or the United States, where harvests are seasonally limited, Peru’s climate and geography enable continuous harvesting. This ensures a steady supply in international markets, giving Peruvian asparagus a competitive edge. As a result, it has been able to maintain its strong position in demanding markets like North America and Europe.
Peruvian asparagus has become one of the country’s top agricultural exports, thanks to its quality, Peru's production capacity, and adherence to strict international standards.
As a result, global demand for both fresh and processed asparagus continues to grow, ensuring that this crop will remain a vital source of income for the country.
