Peru was present at Seafood Expo Global. Representatives from 22 Peruvian export companies participated in the world's largest fishing and aquaculture event, which took place from April 24 to 26 in Brussels, Belgium.
More than 1,850 companies from 79 countries participated in the fair, where Peruvian companies closed deals amounting to over US$90 million, exhibiting their products before 28,500 industry professionals.
The main products presented by the Peruvian delegation included cuttlefish in different forms, prawns, scallops, hake, anchovy, canned fish, squid, pejerrey and tuna. These products are promoted under the Super Foods Peru brand, since they are foods with attributes that contribute to consumers' health as well as being increasingly prominent in people's everyday diet.
"For many companies in the industry, this event represents the main tool for commercial promotion in the year. It is an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing business relationships and look for new customers. The Peru's ongoing participation has allowed us to position ourselves as one of the most important suppliers of hydrobiological products in the world", said PROMPERÚ's Export Director, Luis Torres.
It is important to mention that Europe represents 35% of Peruvian exports of fish products for direct human consumption, exporting US$332 million in 2017. The main destinations are Spain, France, Italy, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal. Poland, Denmark, Lithuania and Greece figure among the potential, interesting markets for Peruvian products.
This year, the overall fishing industry (traditional and non-traditional) is expected to exceed the 31% growth recorded in 2017 despite the El Niño phenomenon, due to more stable sea conditions.
The Peruvian participation was organized by the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission - PROMPERÚ, with the important support of the Peruvian Trade Office in Belgium.
