Peru has a rich textile history dates back to ancient pre-Columbian civilizations like the Paracas and Nazca cultures, renowned for their advanced weaving and design techniques.

PROMISING FUTURE
The Peruvian textile industry has seen significant growth in recent decades, solidifying its position as one of the country's economy's most dynamic and promising sectors.
Proof of this is evident in the figures provided by the National Society of Industries (SNI), which report that the Peruvian textile industry accounts for 8 % of the manufacturing sector and 1 % of the Gross National Product, with an annual contribution of USD 4 to 5 billion.
Why is this? The growth of Peru's textile industry has been driven by several factors, including the country's rich textile tradition, the high quality of its raw materials in demand in today's market, technological innovation, and its openness to international markets.

PIMA AND TANGÜIS: TWO TITANS
One of the great advantages of the Peruvian textile industry is its access to high-quality raw materials. Peru is one of the world's top producers of Pima and Tangüis cotton, both globally renowned for their softness and strength.
Peru is also renowned for its alpaca and vicuña fiber, prized in the international market, making it the leading producer of these natural fibers. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Peru produces approximately 5,000 tons of alpaca fiber and 10,000 kilograms of vicuña fiber annually.
Therefore, these natural fibers are not only sustainable but also offer superior quality, distinguishing Peruvian products on the global stage.
MODERNIZATION
In recent decades, the Peruvian textile industry has undergone significant modernization. Companies like Incalpaca have invested in state-of-the-art technology to enhance the quality and efficiency of their production. Coupled with a sustainable strategy, they have achieved significant milestones.
This company, specializing in the production of alpaca products, sold 600,000 pieces, including accessories, blankets, fabrics, and coats, totaling USD 15 million, due to the success of its RE/UPcycle Alpaca project.
This modernization and shift towards sustainability have empowered Peruvian companies to compete in the global market, exporting products to the United States, Europe, and Asia.
THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT
The Peruvian government and various institutions play a crucial role in supporting the textile industry. Initiatives like the "Con Punche Perú 2" plan, which provides tax incentives to companies in the Textile and Apparel sector, help these businesses access new markets and further promote Peruvian products.
The Peruvian textile industry stands as a dynamic sector with a rich history and a promising future. The blend of tradition, innovation, and high-quality raw materials positions the country favorably in the global market. With continued support, a focus on sustainability, and efforts to differentiate its products, this sector has the potential to thrive, contributing significantly to Peru's economic and social development.
