Our renowned chef Gastón Acurio is the leader of an innovative campaign that analyzes the evolution and perspectives of Peruvian gastronomy, as well as its international presence and the key role that this sector plays in boosting the country's economy.
Through a video, promoted and supported by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) and Oxford Business Group (OBG), Acurio highlighted the decisive role of gastronomy in promoting the country's image and tourism. "Peruvian cuisine, as we understand it today, which is the one known around the world, is also the result of the marvelous blending of cultures we have in Peru", he added.
The Peruvian chef also stresses that our cuisine today is at its peak because it has become international over the last 25 years. In that sense, he considers that Peruvian culinary art represents a great opportunity for the growth of gastronomic tourism.
In relation to what Acurio has said, it is worth mentioning that according to the 2017 Foreign Tourist Profile, gastronomy is the fifth motivation to travel to our country, while 82% of those consulted consider Peru to be a "gastronomic tourism destination".
In the same study, it is also noted that 3 out of 10 travelers have eaten in a Peruvian restaurant in their country of origin. This popularity of Peruvian cuisine generates demand for agricultural exports, contributing significantly to the growth of exports.
