The fashion designer Naeem Khan, who was in Peru last year as LIF Week's star guest and who went on to visit Cuzco upon the invitation of PROMPERÚ, presented a show at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with garments inspired by textiles from the imperial city of Cuzco.

Colorful and traditional embroidery, llikllas, boots and hats from Cuzco were showcased on the catwalk, which brought hundreds of guests together, including international celebrities and well-known online fashion influencers.

"Strong, independent, motivated and beautiful – inside and out – , this collection celebrates women around the world and their different experiences of life. Inspiration turned to the new wave of women who are changing the face of our society," explained Khan at the unveiling of his show, which was covered by major publications such as Vogue and WWD.

During his visit to Cuzco in May 2017, Khan visited the cathedral and Qoricancha, as well as the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuamán and Machu Picchu. He said that from his Peruvian experience he would take away the affection and warmth of its people, its art, and its history, as well as knowledge of ancient weaving techniques that are still used by the weaver women of Chinchero.

Loyal to his Indian-American heritage, his NYFW 2018 collection of 37 outfits contained garments inspired by India.

Along with Paris, Milan and London, the official New York Fashion Week catwalks are considered some of the most important in the global fashion industry and are followed by millions of people around the world because they set fashion trends, making this occasion an excellent platform to promote Peruvian textile art.
