Lima-based designer Monica Mauricio won the 17th edition of the Young Creators to the World contest, held as part of Perú Moda Deco 2024.
A rising star! Her collection, titled "Hijos del viento" (Children of the wind) stood out for its vibrant colors and drew inspiration from the "pablitos", iconic figures of the Qoyllur Riti festival in Cusco.
Mauricio crafted his innovative garments from alpaca fiber and cotton, paying tribute to the cultural heritage of the Andes. His designs reflect a deep connection with the past and nature, weaving tradition into every piece.

She shone at Perú Moda Deco
The Young Creators to the World contest was part of Perú Moda Deco, an event aimed at showcasing the versatility and premium quality of Peruvian fibers in the global market while offering a platform for emerging designers to display their creativity.
The 2024 edition was held under the theme "Origin," celebrating Peru's cultural heritage as a source of inspiration for designs that blend tradition with modernity. A panel of experts evaluated the entries based on creativity, technique, and the designers' ability to incorporate cultural elements into their creations.

Mauricio received a one-month internship at the prestigious ESMOD design school in Paris, along with a round-trip ticket between Lima and Europe. She will also participate in a two-day internship at the MFH Knits factory in Arequipa, sponsored by Michell. Additionally, she earned the opportunity to showcase her work at the next Perú Moda Deco and at the Pabellón Perú during Expo Osaka 2025 in Japan, giving her a platform to display her talent on the global stage.
The Young Creators to the World contest reaffirms its commitment to promoting fashion design in Peru, showcasing the country's cultural richness and the potential of its natural fibers to succeed in international markets.
