The 2019 Dakar Rally will have a significant internal economic impact in Peru amounting to US$ 60 million. Around US$ 40 million (67%) of this figure will be directly related to the tourism industry, explained the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ).
The Director of Tourism Promotion at PROMPERÚ, Marisol Acosta, claimed that “as well as promoting our country internationally, the Dakar Rally will help boost the economies of regions hosting stages of the most important rally in the world.”
As may be recalled, and based on the results obtained this year, it is estimated that the 2019 Dakar Rally will exceed the economic impact achieved at the start of the year (US$ 40 million) by US$ 20 million. This represents a 50% increase. This is due to the fact that the next race will take place in Peru over 12 days.
The international media impact for Peru will amount to US$ 200 million. This figure is 30% higher than the one achieved at the start of the year (US$ 154 million).
It should be stressed that the 2019 Dakar Rally will contribute to strengthening the position of the tourist activities on offer in the Peruvian desert. Media exposure will be focused entirely on Peru for these 12 days.
As such, Marisol Acosta pointed out that this type of event contributes to the position of Peru in the world, with the aim of financing its decentralized and economic development.
