Total pride! Peru is preparing for an exciting participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, starting on July 26. It is set to captivate sports enthusiasts worldwide.
Peru has some remarkable moments in Olympic history. Notably, the volleyball team shone at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, earning a silver medal. Additionally, athlete Edwin Vasquez Cam won the country’s first gold medal in shooting at the 1948 London Olympics, a feat that remains a proud highlight among Peru’s three gold medals in the sport. These achievements are just a few examples of Peru’s outstanding athletes and their contributions to the nation’s Olympic legacy.

This year, with a diverse and talented delegation of 24 athletes competing in 9 different disciplines, Peru aims to shine and elevate the standards of our country in the following categories:
ATHLETICS
Peru has a rich tradition of athletes. From the legendary chaskis of the Inka Empire to modern elite runners who have achieved numerous awards in recent years.
Peruvian athletes will make a significant impact at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, especially with a talented group of runners. As of now, these are the athletes who have been confirmed for participation.
Gladys Tejeda (marathon), a prominent figure in Peruvian athletics, has left a remarkable mark in history. Her talent has shone brightly on the international stage, such as her 27th place finish in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and clinching the bronze medal for Peru at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Among her unforgettable achievements is the gold medal she secured at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Cristhian Pacheco (marathon) is an exceptional marathon runner known for his significant achievements. He set a Pan American record and won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games. Additionally, he secured another major victory in Santiago 2023, claiming another prestigious medal.
Kimberly García (20 km race walk) is a top contender for Peru's medals. She secured the silver at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and clinched two golds at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, triumphing in both the 20 km and 35 km events. Notably, she made history as Peru's first-ever medalist at the World Athletics Championships.
Luz Mery Rojas and Thalia Valdivia are also competing in the marathon, rounding out a formidable women's team.
Mary Luz Andia, Evelyn Inga, Cesar Rodriguez, and Luis Campos are participating in the 20 km race walk.

SURF
Surfing is one of Peru's iconic sports, bringing the country into the global spotlight thanks to legends like three-time world champion Sofia Mulanovich. Recently, at the ISA World Surfing Games, Peru stood out with Lucca Mesinas and Sol Aguirre, both junior world champions. These talented surfers, along with the exceptional Alonso Correa, will represent Peru again at the 2024 Olympic Games.

SPORTS SHOOTING
The discipline that has historically brought us the most joy. Following Peru's impressive performance at the 2022 South American Games, where they secured six gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, the shooting team is poised to elevate Peru's name with their representatives once again:
Daniella Borda and Nicolas Pacheco will represent the skeet discipline. They both bring experience from international competitions. Borda, for instance, clinched the gold medal in the Women's Individual Skeet event at the CAT Americas Championship - Santo Domingo 2024 in the Dominican Republic.
SAILING
Sailing is another area where Peru has seen significant participation. Just think of the two gold medals they won at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023. Looking ahead to the 2024 Olympic Games, Peru aims to achieve the same success with two standout athletes:
Stefano Peschiera is an exceptional athlete who clinched the gold medal in Santiago 2023. He has competed in numerous world championships and previous Olympic Games. Additionally, he proudly carried the flag for the Peruvian delegation at the Opening Ceremony of the Pan American Games in Lima 2019.
Florencia Chiarella is a talented young sailor who has demonstrated impressive potential in youth competitions. She solidified this by becoming the Junior World Champion in Laser Radial sailboats at the World Youth Sailing Championship held in Oman in 2021.

JUDO
Judo in Peru is becoming increasingly popular and gaining recognition. The sport has achieved significant success in international competitions thanks to dedicated federations and committed athletes.
Juan Miguel Postigos won a medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and collected seven more medals at the Pan American Judo Championships from 2010 to 2024.

SWIMMING
Peruvian swimmers have shown remarkable achievements. One such example is Juan Bello, nicknamed the "Peruvian dolphin," who had memorable moments at various Olympic Games, including Mexico 1968, where he narrowly missed the podium by finishing fourth. He remains the sole Peruvian swimmer honored in the Swimming Hall of Fame.
In preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games, Peru will have a participant in open water swimming:
Maria Alejandra Bramont-Arias is renowned for her endurance and remarkable ability over long distances. She has extensive experience in various championships, including Budapest 2017, Hangzhou 2018, Gwangju 2019, Budapest 2022, Fukuoka 2023, and Doha 2024. Notably, she secured the world junior runner-up title in Israel in 2018.
SCULLING
This discipline has proven to be one of the country's most successful. In the Bolivarianos 2022, Peru won a total of 9 medals: 1 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze. Looking ahead to the 2024 Olympic Games, the Peruvian rowing team will feature three talented female rowers.
Adriana Sanguineti (individual scull) secured her spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics by finishing fifth in the individual scull final at the Rio de Janeiro Pre-Olympics.
Alessia and Valeria Palacios (lightweight double sculls). These sisters have an impressive sporting background, highlighted by their remarkable achievement as runners-up in the Under-23 World Rowing Championship in 2023.
BADMINTON
Badminton demands high concentration as players use their rackets to hit the shuttlecock over the net into the opponents' zone.
This sport has been attracting more fans and achieving significant milestones for Peru. The national badminton team stood on the podium in Santiago 2023, thanks to the remarkable performances of Jose Guevara and Ines Castillo. They will proudly represent us in Paris 2024 and aim to secure the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
FENCING
Fencing is a sport with a rich history, consistently featured in the Pan American Games. In Paris 2024, Maria Luisa Doig will proudly represent Peru in the individual epee category. She is a highly accomplished fencer, having won a silver medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Currently, she ranks among the top 50 fencers globally, as recognized by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
