In order for Peruvians to visit little-known destinations in the Inca region, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) launched the campaign #CuscoLovers, a digital strategy that presents four attractions that every Peruvian should know.
This campaign, promoted through PROMPERÚ's "Y tú qué planes" (What are your plans?) travel program, is aimed at national tourists and involves the promotion and diffusion of the following tourist routes: the Three Canyons of Suykutambo, Palccoyo (Rainbow Mountain), the Mirador de Cóndores de Chonta and the Q'eswachaka Inca Bridge.
Four promotional videos have been produced, it has achieved the participation of well-known Peruvian digital influencers and a contest will be organized to encourage the public to become even more interested in this destination. Through www.ytuqueplanes.com/cusco-lovers, the public will be able to obtain all the information about these new routes, as well as travel offers.
THE FOUR ROUTES
El Mirador de Cóndores de Chonta is one of the newest destinations in Cusco. Here, visitors will be able to appreciate snow-capped mountains such as the Humantay and the Salkantay, fruit fields and the flight of the Andean condor from a viewpoint.
It will also be possible to see impressive archeological remains such as Raqchi and Maukallaqta during the trip to the Three Canyons of Suykutambo, which has an impressive geography with three perfect alleyways and monumental rock formations of volcanic origin, as well as four lagoons that are habitat for birds such as the parihuana.
Q'eswachaka is a suspension bridge made of vegetable fiber (ichu) over the Apurimac River in the Quehue district. Its annual renovation, carried out in June, is an ancestral rite that has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Palccoyo, also known as Rainbow Mountain, covers a natural area of over 22,000 acres where you can see mountains that resemble rainbows, and valleys of red, brown and other colors, plus a forest of stones.
Promotion of the above routes is the result of the work organized between PROMPERU and regional players such as the Cusco Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (DIRCETUR), the Cusco Association of Adventure and Ecotourism Operators (AOTEC) and the Cusco Destination Management Organization (OGD), with the aim of promoting new options with great potential that were not being promoted a great deal.
According to the "Profile of internal tourists visiting Cusco", prepared by Mincetur, only 6.3 % of national tourists visit this region. Furthermore, PROMPERU's "Profile of National Vacationers Visiting Cusco" indicates that 60% of those visiting Cusco repeat their trip, the most popular attractions being the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and the Archaeological Complex of Sacsayhuamán.
