The Spanish edition of the prominent international luxury magazine Robb Report has picked Peru as the “Best Destination” on its annual “Best Of the Best” list that it’s been organizing for nine years, according to the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PROMPERÚ).

The award ceremony was held in Madrid and emceed by Andrés Rodríguez, editor and CEO of the Spainmedia group.

Bernardo Muñoz, Head of Peru’s Foreign Trade Office in Spain, was at the event to receive the award. He gave a short speech to the organizers and audience.

“On behalf of my country and PROMPERÚ, I would like to express my gratitude for this important honor that underscores the value of our country, brimming with history, archeology, nature, culture, fusion and flavor”, said Muñoz.

He also added: “Traveling to Peru means partaking in our great cultural heritage, our food, our customs, our communities, and of course, our pisco. I would like to dedicate this award to everyone who works to make Peru a wonderful destination for tourists.”

In its 30-plus years of history, Robb Report’s features on the luxury market have won a readership of millions of well-heeled consumers. Every month, its cover spotlights international celebrities, and these accolades go to the best products and companies offering a high-quality service.

The list of finalists and winners was curated by the magazine’s editorial board, with input from a team of experts on the niches related to luxury products and services, bespoke travel and lifestyle.

As is well known, Spain is the main source of European tourists in Peru. A total of 144,927 Spanish tourists came to the country in 2016, a 4% improvement over the previous year.
