Ginger has achieved widespread distribution across 37 global markets, with primary destinations including the United States and the Netherlands, resulting in unprecedented shipment volumes.
An exceptional accomplishment! According to the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ), the exportation of ginger, commonly referred to as fresh kion, attained a remarkable milestone, reaching USD 120 million. This achievement stands as a notable record over the past three years. Specifically, in 2023, the value of ginger exports surged by 86% in comparison to the previous year, amounting to USD 64 million.
WHY IS GINGER SO BENEFICIAL?
Ginger boasts a rich tradition as a natural anti-inflammatory and respiratory remedy. Moreover, it offers notable antioxidant attributes and serves as a significant reservoir of essential vitamins including C, B2, B3, along with minerals such as iron, phosphorus, and calcium.
Ginger showcases remarkable versatility across various industries, ranging from culinary applications to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, thereby establishing itself as a prominent leader among Peruvian exports. Noteworthy is the consistent year-round cultivation of this Peruvian commodity across the regions of Junin, Lima, and Tacna.

In 2023, ginger penetrated 37 international markets, with the United States emerging as the foremost destination, boasting shipments totaling USD 50 million, reflecting a substantial increase of 62% compared to the preceding year.
The Netherlands secures the second position with shipments totaling USD 39 million, reflecting a notable increase of 162% compared to the preceding year. In addition, our country positioned itself as the second supplier to the U.S. market, after China.
