In the context of APEC 2024, Peru is emerging as a powerful exporter in various economic sectors that have shown remarkable growth in recent years. Notable among these are agriculture, fisheries, and manufacturing, each significantly contributing to the country’s economic growth.
In 2023, the Peruvian agricultural sector grew by 9.5%, reaching USD 9.509 billion. Products such as fresh grapes, blueberries, avocados, and green coffee beans led this growth, primarily exported to APEC economies like the United States, China, and Chile. This momentum continues in 2024, driven by sustained demand for agricultural products.
The fisheries sector also performed notably, with an 8.5% growth, reaching USD 1.779 billion. Peru’s rich marine resources, with high-value-added products like frozen squid and cuttlefish, remain highly appreciated in international markets, particularly in Asia.
Manufacturing is another key sector, with a 9.7% increase in exports, reaching USD 727 million. The diversification of manufactured products and improvements in quality have been critical factors in this growth, opening new opportunities in global markets.
Additionally, emerging sectors like textiles are showing sustained growth, reflecting Peru’s ability to diversify its exports and adapt to international market demands. With a solid network of trade agreements and a strategic geographic location, Peru is well-positioned to continue expanding its exports and consolidating itself as a key player in international trade.
The combination of high-quality agricultural products, rich and varied fisheries, and an evolving manufacturing sector ensures that Peru will remain an attractive and competitive trading partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
