In order to show off the high fashion design that Peru has to offer, a delegation of representatives from the public and private sector participated in the New York Coterie show, considered the textile industry's premier global retail event and exhibition platform in the area of design and accessories for women, the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PROMPERÚ) reported.

Peruvian participation is thanks to the talented designers Ana María Guiulfo, Claudia Bertolero, Meche Correa, Sitka Semsch and Titi Guiulfo, as well as to the brands Equilibreum, Anntarah, Kero Design and Escudo, and to Jorge Luis Salinas, all of whom belong to the Peruvian Fashion Designers Alliance.

The collections they took to Coterie surprised with their ingenuity and creativity. The garments also stood out for their quality, both for the raw materials used - the highest quality alpaca and cotton - as well as for the way they were made. As such, event-goers could appreciate Peruvian products, recognizing them as something that can comply with the highest standards required by the market.

The PROMPERÚ Communications and Country Image director, Isabella Falco, pointed out that: "The textile industry is one of our country's priority sectors, since it involves a long production chain and represents much more than just the final garment. The development of the clothing industry encompasses raw materials, manufacturing and design, and our country has the ability to offer these products and services to international markets. On this occasion, Coterie has allowed us to show off the talent of our designers."

Coterie also provides an opportunity to promote the industry brands ‘Alpaca del Perú’ and ‘Peru Textiles’. "We want people around the world to feel sure they are buying a quality product when they see these brands on an item of clothing," explained Falco.

At present, the textile industry makes up 2.7% of total non-traditional Peruvian exports, with market prospects with a wide margin of growth offered by the quality products and services that the country has to offer the international market.

It is worth mentioning that the Peruvian participation was made possible by the joint effort of PROMPERÚ, Peru’s Foreign Trade Office (OCEX) in New York and the Peruvian Fashion Designers Alliance.
