Peru’s imperial city, Cusco, has once again been chosen as the number one city in Central and South America by important travel magazine, Travel and Leisure, within the framework of its World Best Awards 2019.
The US magazine noted that its readers chose Cusco as Latin America's favorite city after considering it a honeymoon destination, for its healthy and delicious cuisine, and for its history.
In the same category of the World Best Awards 2019, Lima was also ranked in the top 10, along with cities such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Valparaiso, Bogota, Cartagena, Quito, Mendoza and Antigua.
Meanwhile, Peruvian chain Inkaterra, which has properties in Cusco and Tambopata, is in third place in the Best Hotel Brand in the World category. In addition, other private sector companies such as the Tambo del Inka hotel and Sol y Luna received awards in other areas.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Cusco has been recognized as the favorite city of travelers participating in Travel and Leisure's survey. Last year, the Inca capital was also highlighted as the top destination by the prestigious US magazine.
WORLD BEST AWARDS
Each year, readers of Travel and Leisure – the largest travel brand in the United States, with a global audience of 6.7 million – vote for their favorite destinations, hotels, resorts, spas, airlines, cruise ships, tour operators and car rental agencies. These preferences that are then recognized in the World Best Awards.
This classification is a gold standard in the travel industry because it recognizes the best experiences and destinations in the world. The annual Travel and Leisure survey also received record participation in its 2019 edition. The results will also be published in the August print edition of the journal.
The United States is the country which sends the second highest number of tourists to Peru. In 2018, the number of tourists from this country was 641,280, and their main activities were geared towards culture, adventure and nature.
